So, we have began the series Colonial House, and it seems THEY'VE EATEN A RODENT.
Given which circumstances--both historical and modern--under what circumstances would you eat a muskrat?

I guess eating muskrat in the historical times that would be normal and im sure that would give a lot of nutrients and would fill you up for the day. But in modern times I wouldn't dare eat one only if I was stuck in the wild but other then that noooo !!!
ReplyDeleteFrom the point of view that what they are eating is food preserved in salt and that there is high chances that the crops don't work, I would eat muskrat because it is fresh meat and you do not know if tomorrow you are going to have something to eat. At present I would not eat muskrat unless I was in a situation similar to that of the colony
ReplyDeleteIn that time eating muskrat would be normal because there would be some nights where there wouldn't be food and that would be your only option. If I was in that situation and that was the only thing to eat I would eat a muskrat because I wouldn't want to die
ReplyDeleteIf I had lived in the colonial time period, and was struggling to survive, and my options for other foods was very limited. Then I might eat the muskrat if our colony had a limited amount of food. In this situation in that time period I would have eaten it for a source of nutrients and to stay healthy. In modern time not having to ration food and struggle to stay alive I would find other options for food and avoid eating muskrat.
ReplyDeleteLiving in the colonial time period was a lot more difficult than living in the present. I think it was normal back then to eat food that was hunted because it was fresh and not stored for a long period of time like the other meats that they had. I personally don't think I would eat it now, but since it was a completely different time and struggling for food was normal then I probably would have eaten it.
ReplyDeleteThe constant struggle for finding food would have forced most people to not be picky. Back then and now, I would probably eat it. However, it would be for different reasons. In colonial time, it would have been solely for survival. Also, like Jill said, it was fresh meat - probably a novelty to colonists who were used to salted pork and dried peas. Now, it would be to try something new. How do you know you don't like something until you've tried it?
ReplyDeleteI guess eating muskrat was a great way to get source a source of food because when you think of it, finding food was hard back in the day. So you would have to eat what was available during that time period.
ReplyDeleteFinding during that time was hard I believed so they just went after anything that they could get their hands on so, if I was in that situation I would most definitely eat the muskrat. It was either that or starve.
ReplyDeletewhen it comes to harsh time like that eating a muskrat would be a last result. I would have eatn the dog then go vegan and if nthn works out then i would eat it.
ReplyDeleteI would not of lived back in times because the food would of been cooked for me to see and to know they killed it and I’m eating it fresh nor would I like it or force my slef to eat it
